Featured Artist: Abigail Vargas
I am a contemporary textile artist based in Winters, California, with ten years of quilting experience. My work has been featured in national exhibitions including QuiltCon, Quilt National, CraftForms, and Quilts=Art=Quilts. I am the creator of the collaborative Exquisite Quilt series, and all six quilts were featured in a special exhibition at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2025. This year, I became the SAQA Northern California/Nevada Region Exhibition Committee Chair, and I have been a member of the Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild for the past ten years.
My quilts blend repurposed and new fabrics to create bold, colorful designs inspired by nature, science, and family history. In my Winters studio, I explore color, fluid movement, and emotion through textiles. Textured quilting lines, printed patterns, and the sculptural shadows created by quilted fabrics all contribute to the dynamic surfaces of my work.
