Merely because we live in this part of the world, we as individuals are part of the Pacific ecosystem. On a daily basis we may not recognize the changes that are happening, but they are of vital importance to our world. In the prospectus for this exhibit, we challenged SAQA artists to consider the ramifications and consequences of their Pacific connection. We were stunned with the variety and emotional intensity of their responses, as well as with the beauty and graphic impact of their work. An exhibit was born, and it far exceeded our expectations.rinted imagery, and sewn fibers, are a seemingly ancient combination. At their confluence, thee is pigment and pressure, woven layers, and borders sewn with fiber. There is color as well as texture, form, intention, ingenuity, and many stories. Textile and print go hand in hand, and the combinations are constantly being reinvented. We invite you to create new work using both techniques for this exhibition. –Sonja Campbell and Georgia French, ShiftingTides co-chairs
