Art Movements in Fiber
Regional Exhibition
Throughout history artists have produced art in a variety of media and styles, each piece a unique statement reflective of the artist’s choices about subject matter, mood, technique and process. Over time, perhaps too simplistically, artistic styles have been grouped into art movements or genres, for example, Realism, Impressionism, Cubism, etc. In this exhibit, SAQA Northern California & Northern Nevada regional artists were asked to choose an art movement or genre and explain how it has inspired or influenced their work
Curated by Carol Rossi and juried by Dolores Miller, forty-three artists were selected for Art Movements in Fiber. A printed exhibition catalog is available through MagCloud, or you may download a free digital version.
Printed imagery, and sewn fibers, are a seemingly ancient combination. At their confluence, thee is pigment and pressure, woven layers, and borders sewn with fiber. There is color as well as texture, form, intention, ingenuity, and many stories. Textile and print go hand in hand, and the combinations are constantly being reinvented. We invite you to create new work using both techniques for this exhibition.
